"BULA - it's Fiji time" Tomandfran's photos about Coral Coast, Fiji (the wellesley resort fiji)

Preview of Tomandfran's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Coral Coast, Fiji Entry Title: "BULA - it's Fiji time" Entry: "We left Auckland (with pacific air) to go to Fiji and the promise of sunshine, drinks with mini umbrella's and Fiji time (thats the loosest possible definition of time there is!). As we checked in we had possibly the tightest airline regulations - ryanair might fit into this bracket - but the carry on allowance was only 7kg instead of the normal 10kg and it was strictly 1 piece per person, so Fran's beloved GUESS bag was sent in with the rest of the 'normal luggage' to be checked in. She was not impressed as we looked on from departures as the ground crew tossed bag after bag onto the plane and eventually even her GUESS got the heave-ho treatment (i thought it was funny anyway!). Still we shouldnt have been too bothered we were on our way to sunny and idyllic Fiji Unfortunately, well bar the first day, it was a bit of a wash out! We were met at the airport by the resort driver Jonny. Nice guy and entertaining enough as he dodged the many potholes on the way to the 4 star resort. It was a 105 min drive so we were well tired when we got there. Still it was a nice sunny evening and the weather was hot and humid. We got our dinner and welcome drinks and hit the hay. The next day we got our only day of sunshine as the next 4 were ...

Airline Rules For Packing Medications

!±8± Airline Rules For Packing Medications

Can you take medications on a plane? Are there specific rules governing what medications you can take when flying, or how they are packed?

These and similar questions are very common, especially with a growing population of older, retired people flying. Whether your parents are traveling with you or you are newly retired and wanting to enjoy your free time with a trip or two, it's important to know the airline rules for packing medications before you go, so you do not risk having important medications confiscated.

In fact, it's not just the airlines but also customs you need to please, depending on where you are going. Because the laws, legalities and regulations differ for taking medications to different countries and even on different airlines, here are some basic tips to help you ensure you get your medications safely to your destination with you.

1) Have your prescription/s with you. If there is any question, having a copy of your prescription packed along with your medications will help clear up any questions and prove the validity of your need to carry them. Always carry whatever applicable paperwork you can get; this may also help you remember what to take and how much, etc. while you are away and your surroundings and routine are unfamiliar and possibly distracting.

2) Follow basic airline rules for liquids; you will not be allowed to bring any liquid containers any larger than 3.4 fluid ounces/100mL in your carry-on, so either pack accordingly, splitting liquid medications into smaller bottles as needed, or pack your medications in your checked luggage. Because it's safer and more secure to keep your medications with you, the former option may be the better one.

3) Call ahead to your specific airline to inquire about any policies they may have. The airline personnel will be able to offer guidance as to how you should pack medications and what paperwork they will require, if any (although, as mentioned, for customs and other purposes it's always a good idea to have accompanying paperwork with medications).

4) If you are planning to visit a foreign country (or several), it may be wise to do some research online ahead of time, to find out if any medications you routinely take are illegal or otherwise prohibited there. If you are carrying something that is prohibited, you risk not only having it confiscated but also a run-in with the local legal authorities, an entirely avoidable unpleasantry.

As a side note, it is always a good idea to label all your medications, and to have a note about what you are taking and why, in case of an emergency during which someone else needs to get that information quickly. Your note should also contain information about any allergies you have and any serious medical conditions you are dealing with, so all pertinent information is available at a glance.

Now that your medications are in order, you can think about enjoying your trip with one less thing to worry about. These tips are brought to you by Travel-Like-A-Pro.com. Bon Voyage!

How to Carry Pepper Spray During Airplane Travel

!±8± How to Carry Pepper Spray During Airplane Travel

Pepper spray, or oleoresin capsicum, is legal to use for your personal protection and self defense in most states. However, transporting defense spray or another disabling chemical or device (such as a stun gun) from one place to another can be somewhat tricky-especially if you are traveling by plane. Today's airline restrictions are very strict, and for good reason. The limitations are in place to keep all passengers and employees safer.

What Pepper Spray Products are Allowed?

There are certain limitations on what you can actually transport while you are traveling by plane-specifically, you are forbidden to travel with any other disabling chemical or device, and these regulations are strictly enforced. The specific rules regarding pepper spray state that carrying a spray on your person or in your carryon luggage is prohibited. If you do feel you need defense spray at your destination, it is possible to get it there since you are allowed to pack pepper spray containers or cans that are 4 oz. or less in your checked baggage. Most pocket or purse-sized pepper spray cans that you will find are generally in the 2.5-3 oz. range, and rarely larger than 4 oz., so this should not be a problem.

Tell the Airline that You Have an O.C. Spray

If you do choose to pack a small can of defense spray or a stun gun in your checked luggage, you must declare this to the clerks at the baggage counter. They will probably want to inspect the can (this is generally required by law), and ensure that there is a locking safety device to prevent unintentional discharge while inside of the bag.

While most self defense spray dispensers are small enough to be contained in your purse or pocket, remember that you will be searched and have to pass through a metal detector prior to boarding the airplane. Concealing the container can get you arrested.

Don't Conceal Your Defense Spray in Your Carry-on Luggage

If you feel that you will want to have your defense spray or a stun gun for your personal protection at your final travel destination, then knowing the airline safety regulations regarding how to properly pack the spray is very important. Unfortunately, if you do attempt to get through security with the spray on your person or in your carryon baggage, it probably will be confiscated. Safely packing it into your checked baggage at the start of your trip is a much better way to handle the situation and ensure that you still have it to protect yourself when you arrive.

Check All State and City Pepper Spray Regulations of Your Travel Destination

Also, you will want to be sure that you carefully check the laws regarding personal protection devices and disabling chemicals in your destination state. It's important to understand that there may be specific limitations on the legality of having OC spray in certain states, such as Massachusetts (requires a firearm card), New York (limitations of point of purchase), Wisconsin (limitations on concentration of pepper spray or other chemicals), Washington DC (pepper spray must be registered), California (limits size of container), and Michigan (limits ingredients and size of container). In Canada, pepper spray is completely illegal, so if you are headed to Canada then leave the pepper spray at home.

Carry on Luggage and Airline Regulations

!±8± Carry on Luggage and Airline Regulations

The idea behind having carry-on luggage is to have a piece of luggage that you can take with you on the flight so that you do not need to worry about having to pick it up after you have arrived. Don't be fooled by the size because the inside measurements are not what the airline permits you to have on board flight. It is the outside measurements that most airlines measurements consider for their passengers.

The problem is that often people find that they do not have too much room to pack things because the inside is much smaller. When you are choosing your carry-on luggage it is advisable for you to select pieces that offer you extra storage space by putting pockets etc. on the outside that you can use to put items of necessity into. You can put personal effects and smaller items in the outside pockets.

Many people think that their piece of carry-on luggage is going to be placed in the overhead but the truth is there is not nearly enough space for everyone's luggage that is why you must consider the size. The carry-on luggage will be placed underneath the seat that is in front of you. This is a good thing in most cases because you can access to your carry-on.

The bad part is that those who are seated over the parts of the plane where the electrical boxes are placed have less space and often cannot have a regular size piece of carry-on luggage placed in the seat in front of them. It is very wise to check your seating arrangement and make sure that you are able to sit in a spot that you can comfortably put your luggage.
